Sarah's fundraising challenge

Posted on 04 March 2014

Our campaign is gathering momentum as the public start to show their support for Groundwork by holding their own public fundraisers.

Sarah Coulbert raised £105 for Groundwork as she wanted to make sure the children she works with could enjoy outdoor spaces as much as she did as a child.  Sarah, working towards her Queen’s Guide Award with Girlguiding UK, raised the money as part of the practical element of her community challenge.

She said:  “I wanted to fundraise for Groundwork because I wanted to support a charity that benefits both green spaces and the local community.  After a severe illness as a child I was often unable to go out and becoming a wheelchair user limited my interaction with local green spaces.  With an electric wheelchair and a full-time carer I have been able to regain my connection to these spaces and I wanted to support a charity that helps people connect to green spaces while increasing their opportunities in life.

“For me green spaces are about freedom. Access to local green spaces allows me to experience other aspects of my local environment. I would like to protect these valuable resources for others to enjoy and I hope this generation seeks to make a positive difference.  I am fortunate that my family valued parks and woodlands and encouraged my love of playing outside.  I hope I am able to encourage that same enjoyment in the children I volunteer with.”
