Groundwork provides corporate partners with the opportunity to get involved in a range of volunteering opportunities that offer a mutual benefit, including skills based volunteering.
Skanska is supporting Groundwork projects across the country as part of their Lend a Hand programme which provides employees with an extra day of leave each year to volunteer for a cause that matters to them and Skanska employees are going the extra mile and introducing new ways that we can support one another.
Skanska HR Business Partner, Louise Wilkinson, contacted Groundwork to request a work experience placement for a close friend who was looking to utilise a trip to the UK by gaining workplace skills before beginning her Master’s degree in Italy.
Marina Romano joined the Groundwork London team on 1 August for a period of four weeks volunteering in range of areas from office administration to green space development. Whilst gaining skills and knowledge in a range of areas, Marina provided valuable support to the team by managing tasks including filing and expense reconciliation, harvesting crops and assisting in outdoor school sessions.
Marina said: “I want to thank you for helping me to volunteer with you and to enjoy myself. It was really important to me and I will never forget it.”
