Laura 1st Great North Run!

As many of know I work for the charity Groundwork North East & Cumbria. I'm based in the Northumberland office and we're involved in community and environmental projects right across the region. We work with volunteers to make change to create better neighbourhoods, build skills and job prospects and help people live and work in a greener way. Some of the projects we run include Community Woodlands on disused pit sites with local volunteers improving their local spaces to be enjoyed by communities, we also run an allotment for older isolated people, Blooming Well an eco therapy project for people with dementia and their carers supported by local school age volunteers and also Healthy Parks, Healthy Minds, which gives people with enduring mental health issues the opportunity to take part in social and rewarding work. We have also recently launched a new nature reserve at Seaton Burn college which students with different learning abilities have led on and also made the new patient's garden at Wansbeck Hospital. Our work isn't just about the people and communities, we manage the countryside to benefit wildlife and habitats along the way too. This is only a short list of everything we do so if you want more information just ask. Until 3 years ago Groundwork was funded through central government; since the cuts we have been relying on grants and donations to carry out our work. This is tough but on the plus side i'm getting pretty good at writing funding applications! I'm running the Great North Run to raise money for new tools and equipment for the enthusiastic and hard working volunteers to use. We would love it if you could donate what you can... every little helps! :) xxx
