Liaising with schools, community groups, housing associations and local authorities, the Groundwork Land team improve spaces for the enjoyment of everyone living in the area. They have now recently expanded and are working with private sector groups, as well.
In the past few months, the Land team have worked hard to conserve three key nature reserves in the Greater Manchester area - Fullwood nature reserve, Jubilee Colliery and Moston Brook where they have made concerted efforts to improve footpaths; manage flood risks; reduce contaminents in water levels and conserve areas of interest.
The Land team also works with local groups to create community activities that put the land back into use, such as food growing areas, play areas and community areas. Their work has included improving school grounds, community allotments and local parks, providing safer areas for families and local people to enjoy. Tree planting, hard and soft landscaping, fencing and installation of play equipment have all been part of their regular remit since the team was formed.
