Business of the Year Award for Groundwork
Posted on 11 November 2013
Local charity Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale has scooped the award for Business of the Year at the 2013 Rochdale Business Awards.
The voluntary sector organisation overcame stiff competition to win the Business of the Year (turnover between £1 - £5m) award category sponsored by Jackson Jackson and Sons Limited.
Vicki Devonport, Executive Director of Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, commented: “This award not only recognises the hard work and focus of those associated with the Trust but also acknowledges that we have moved from an organisation with limited reserves to one which has managed to keep its head above water whilst at the same time investing in training, accreditation and improving the infrastructure of the business. What makes us different is that our focus is on helping people and organisations make changes in order to create better neighbourhoods, to build skills and job prospects and to live and work in a greener way.”
The Rochdale Business Awards were established in 2011 to celebrate the achievements of businesses and business people within Rochdale Borough. The annual event is organised and sponsored by the local business community and this year took place on Friday 8 November at the magnificent Rochdale Town Hall.
Groundwork deliver a wide variety of programmes that benefit the people of Rochdale. These include The Prince’s Trust Team programme for unemployed young people, Green Team employment and training programmes in partnership with Rochdale Boroughwide Housing and the Housing Refurbishment programme.
Specific Groundwork projects in Rochdale this year have included the refurbishment of Mandale Park BMX track and the establishment of a community food growing site in Kirkholt.
