Summer Extravaganza Success For Northwich

Posted on 02 July 2015

Stilt walkersSunshine and blue skies guaranteed a day to remember when Northwich town centre recently held its first Summer Extravaganza.  Thousands flocked into the town to take advantage of the family entertainment and live music organised by Northwich Business Improvement District to coincide with the popular monthly Artisan Market.

The town’s first visiting petting zoo, complete with meerkats, rabbits and ducks, proved a firm favourite with the children and families were also invited to join in  with arts and crafts in Weaver Square and St Pauls Square.  A fire-eater helped the temperatures soar and a unicyclist, stiltwakers and balloon artist wowed the crowds too. Children were also left awestruck by an interactive life-like dinosaur.

Live folk and jazz from local musicians filled the air in Brunner Court with Cockney Carol, The Ageless Ukes, Northwich Pop Choir and solo singers all performing, whilst Blozone rocked up a storm in the Quayside and JCB Unplugged, Matt Davies, Matty Awbery and Mike Baddeley were firm favourites with families at the Witton Chimes.

Jane Hough, Northwich BID manager said: “It’s all about encouraging people to visit Northwich, be part of the local community and have a great family day out too. It's fantastic to see the entire town involved and to encourage visitors and shoppers to take in the whole of the town centre."

“We’ve worked hard to get the right mix of entertainment and think the addition of live music really broadened the appeal.  Combined with the Artisan Market on Saturday and yesterday’s Pedal Power Northwich really did deliver an action-packed weekend of entertainment.”

Adam Prestage, the manager of The Witton Chimes said:  “This is the first time we’ve put something on like this during the day and it’s been great fun.  We had a very busy pub, with families enjoying the entertainment and some great feedback on the local artists too.  It was a great showcase for Northwich and we’re looking forward to the next one.”
