Green Dragon Environmental Standard

Green Dragon is an environmental standard that is awarded to organisations that are taking action to understand, monitor and control their impacts on the environment.

For many companies and organisations, the attainment of formal environmental management systems such as ISO 14001 can be very daunting, and in some cases not relevant to their business needs.

Many companies and organisations aspiring to ISO 14001 do not receive any recognition for the steps they have made along the way and if they don't achieve all the elements for certification, they have nothing to show for their efforts. This is where the Green Dragon Environmental Standard plays an important part.

The Standard is structured into five “steps” to allow organisations to gain recognition for their progress with their environmental management.  Level 5 of Green Dragon is comparable to ISO 14001 and EMAS.  Green Dragon allows you to implement a recognised EMS and demonstrate your environmental credentials at a level which is appropriate to your size and activities.  Green Dragon can also be used as a route to ISO 14001, which also allows recognition of your achievements at each stage of the journey.

Over 1000 organisations have achieved certification against the standard since its inception.  This is significantly more awards than any other phased EMS schemes operating in the UK.

The Green Dragon Standard is owned and operated by Groundwork Wales.  As a UKAS Accredited Inspection Body, you can be confident that our inspections are carried out to recognised international standards.
