Anne's story: keeping warm this winter

Anne* is in her 70’s and lives with blindness and chronic lung disease that is made worse by the cold. Her husband is 82 years-old, very frail and his wife’s main carer.

Anne told Sarah, our Green Doctor, that their small council flat was very cold.

Even in the Summer I have to put the central heating on before I can get in the bath. It’s that cold. But in the winter we have to have it on 24/7. And we’re pensioners. So it’s like that – very difficult.

Sarah arranged for draught proofing and a grant to help pay the bills, and also sent a man round to look at the locks and give advice on preventing falls. Anne said:

Sarah gave us the feeling that somebody did care, did understand that there are people out there struggling.

Green Doctors

Last year our energy efficiency experts visited 33,500 households to provide energy and water efficiency advice, helping people to take control of their bills.
