Ever since Groundwork was established there has been
interest in our work from agencies in other countries. The
kinds of problems we tackle in the UK are common to most
industrialised countries, and the partnership and community-based
approach that Groundwork has helped to develop is seen to offer
important lessons.
Although our primary role is to serve communities in the UK we recognise that a core principle of sustainable development is that local action forms a key part of achieving global sustainability. Sharing our approach with others - and equally important – learning from others’ experience in different parts of the world, makes us better at what we do.
Groundwork is currently working directly on projects with partners in the European Union and Central and Eastern Europe. The Groundwork approach has also been adopted in the USA where the National Parks Service is supporting a growing number of Trusts.
Groundwork has also entered into a Strategic Grant Agreement with the Department for International Development to promote a better understanding of global sustainable development issues among its own staff and partners.
