Marks & Spencer Greener Living Spaces

Image: mother and child playing in open green spaceIn 2007/08 Groundwork joined forces with Marks & Spencer to launch a national programme aimed at improving parks, play areas and community gardens across the UK.  The programme is funded by the profits* derived from the 5p charge introduced by M&S for food carrier bags as part of its ambitious Plan A sustainability programme.  The initiative is on track to reduce free carrier bag use by more than 70% while generating funding for more than 30 environmental projects.

Through our partnership with Marks & Spencer, Greener Living Spaces aims to:

*1.85p for every standard food carrier bag and 0.76p for every cake carrier bag
