How to contact our team nationally and around the country
I have been with Groundwork for 10 years now. I started out as a Project Officer working to support a cross-sector town partnership in the town of Saltash in Cornwall. A strange transition from my previous career in the Inland Revenue (boo, hiss!), brought about through my commitment to a Human Geography degree with the Open University.
Through that initial role I developed an interest in fundraising, bid writing and partnership development, which led me on to my longer term career path with Groundwork in the South West.
I joined the management team of the local trust (Plymouth Area Trust at that time) in 2002 and looked after the general support services and built my knowledge of fundraising for the wide range of projects, programmes and initiatives that Groundwork engages in.
In 2004 I went to work for Groundwork UK as the Regional Development Manager for the South West, before restructuring earlier this year led to my being transferred back to the local trust, which has now become Groundwork South West.
My role is now that of Development Director, where I work with some fantastic colleagues on development, marketing, arts and communications issues, as well as contributing to the organisation more widely as a member of the Senior Management Team.
The most amazing thing about working for Groundwork, in my experience, is the ability to follow the work that interests you and to work closely with a very wide range of other specialist workers. Where else could I work with youth workers, conservation managers, environmental business advisors, community development workers, education practitioners, contemporary artists and employment programme teams?
Groundwork has also given me the flexibility to have two children and to return to work on a part-time basis, in a role which still values my experience and contribution.
