Energy efficiency campaign generates coverage

04/03/2010

Groundwork's energy efficiency campaign is stimulating media interest.

Groundwork's energy efficiency campaign has built up a head of steam with leading independent think tanks and regeneration, housing, and local authority publications covering the story.

At the heart of the campaign lies the findings of a survey of householder's attitudes towards energy efficiency that Ipsos Mori were commissioned to conduct on behalf of Groundwork.

New Start Magazine, Local Government Chronicle, Green Futures and Inside Housing each reported on the findings.  Ipsos Mori interviewed 1,016 people and found:

  • Homeowners have the highest rates of energy efficiency installations, including cavity wall insulation, draught proofing and loft insulation.
  • People living in private rented accommodation have the lowest rates of energy efficiency measures, often substantially lower – for example 88% of homeowners have some loft insulation but only 42% of private tenants.
  • Respondents living in London have the lowest levels of energy efficiency measures across England and Wales.
  • When asked who people would choose to install measures in their homes, people preferred an organisation recommended by a friend or relative.
  • The least popular option in most categories for installing measures was a contractor provided by an energy company.
  • People who don’t already have these measures installed would be more likely to get them installed if they could have a visit from a local adviser to explain all the options.
