How to contact our team nationally and around the country
Communities without people in meaningful work cannot function, that’s why Groundwork has developed into one of the largest providers of Intermediate Labour Market programmes and Transitional Employment programmes.
Following its success in other areas of London, the initiative has recently expanded into the Boroughs of Lambeth and Wandsworth. Designed to support young people and those in unemployment hotspots, it aims to bridge the gap between unemployed people and skilled sustainable jobs.
Each young person is engaged on a trainee basis and undertakes a 6 month fixed term contract, where they are contracted for 25 hours per week. Each placement includes valuable real life work experience, relevant training and weekly interventions with a Groundwork advisor to develop job searching skills. The aim is to support the transition into sustainable employment at the end of the training period.
The contracts offered by Groundwork are focused around green jobs, energy advice, health and social care and childcare and education. During Phase 1 Groundwork recruited 51 Green Team operatives and placed them in Groundwork London, Veolia, Quadron, Glendales, Lewisham Homes and Beckingham Place. Some have opted for horticultural placements, other young people have been placed in positions such as office administration, customer service, energy assessors, caretakers, child care and youth work across local authorities, small businesses and charities.
Recruitment for Phase 2 of the programme in August saw 20 young people placed in traineeships in the London Borough of Lambeth and a further 12 traineeships for Wandsworth.
Groundwork staff are mentoring the trainees to build their confidence and skills and supporting them to access sustainable employment when they complete their traineeship. We will meet a group of young people as part of the tour.
