Groundwork community groups need your votes

£50,000 could make a big difference to a community project wanting to transform their local area into a better place to live. In the final of The People’s Millions there are 120 projects competing to win a £50,000 grant from The Big Lottery Fund in partnership with ITV.

Two Groundwork projects have been nominated for The People’s Millions: Grozone Community Garden in Cheshire and Northbrook Park Community Play Area in London are each competing against another project in their region to win the grant towards developing their community areas and keeping up the good work.

1300 hours of community volunteering helped to transform Grozone Community Garden from a derelict site that attracted anti-social behaviour into a shared community hub. Since January of this year Grozone has worked with a variety of groups within the community, ranging from local schools to special needs and mental health groups, bringing them together in a common goal. Without the People’s Millions funding the project will grind to a halt – just as it is blossoming.

Northbrook Park Community Play Area on the other hand is just about to take off. Groundwork has so far worked with the local community to complete a consultation and design a new play area after a 7-year-old boy wrote to the mayor about the state of the local park. It is run down and hardly being used and its redevelopment would provide a great outdoors area for an area otherwise deprived of green community space. Winning in The People’s Millions would allow the group to realise their vision for Northbrook Park as a family-friendly green space with new play equipment with Groundwork’s help.
