Energy Efficiency Survey

Groundwork commissioned Ipsos Mori to find out what energy efficiency measures people have in their homes,
and what would persuade them to install more.

Ipsos Mori interviewed 1,016 people and found the following results:

  • Homeowners have the highest rates of energy efficiency installations, including cavity wall insulation, draught proofing and loft insulation.
  • People living in private rented accommodation have the lowest rates of energy efficiency measures, often substantially lower – for example 88% of homeowners have some loft insulation but only 42% of private tenants.
  • Respondents living in London have the lowest levels of energy efficiency measures across England and Wales.
  • When asked who people would choose to install measures in their homes, people preferred an organisation recommended by a friend or relative.
  • The least popular option for installing measures was a contractor provided by an energy company
  • People who don’t already have these measures installed would be more likely to get them installed if they could have a visit from a local advisor to explain all the options
