Warm Homes, Greener Homes

Government has recently published Warm Homes, Greener Homes: a strategy for household energy management, which sets out measures to help people reduce their energy bills and make carbon savings.

The strategy:

  • Backs Groundwork’s call for Home Energy Advisers to give tailored advice to households on reducing their energy use.
  • Endorses Groundwork’s approach of training up long term unemployed young people to work as energy efficiency installers, providing them with skills, work experience and training necessary for supply chains to gear up for increased demand of energy efficiency products.

Also mentioned in the strategy is research Groundwork is carrying out on behalf of Communities and Local Government into techniques to influence people’s behaviour on the use of energy in the home.

Groundwork will pilot a number of techniques across the UK and measure the effectiveness of the approaches in engaging communities in low carbon behaviours. The outcomes will be used by government to work jointly with the third sector and develop a programme of work to influence energy efficiency behaviour in the home.
