Changing Behaviour

People need help to take practical action to tackle climate change. There is strong evidence to suggest that working with people in groups is one of the most powerful ways of achieving lasting change.  Out in the community and in schools, businesses and other organisations, we help to change behaviours and limit personal environmental impacts.

  • Behaviour change takes time but is pivotal if the UK is to cut emissions year on year.  Government must invest in community support programmes which help people understand their impact on the climate and offer practical help to live differently.  This approach must be based on understanding people’s motivations and capitalising on existing community networks.
  • People need help and advice to encourage them to install energy saving measures in their homes.  They don’t necessarily trust energy companies to act in their best interests.  A network of independent energy advisers, experienced at working with communities, could help facilitate a mass take-up of energy saving measures, making homes warmer and better insulated – and have a dramatic effect on fuel poverty.
