Communities

All political parties have at the heart of their plans giving more control over local services to local people.  This principle is warmly welcomed but it needs to be accompanied by the right kind of support to help communities make the most of these opportunities, particularly in areas where there is greatest need and often least capacity.

  • Organisations in the third sector can play a crucial role acting as an intermediary between local authorities and diverse, often fractured, communities.  This role needs to be recognised and built into local commissioning frameworks.
  • Third sector organisations can also play a leading role in reaching those furthest from the jobs market – and we know that jobs are the key building blocks of regeneration.
