Low Carbon Economy

One way out of our economic crisis is to kickstart a green economy through programmes of investment and the creation of green jobs.  This approach is backed by policymakers from across the political spectrum.

  • Green jobs such as recycling workers or energy efficiency advisers help people contribute to their communities as well as moving the UK towards a low carbon economy.  More needs to be done to skill up young people for a low carbon future by creating green apprenticeships, which champion these roles and raise their profile with young people.
  • Local authorities need to rethink the traditional approach to economic development.  Underpinning the economic assessment duty with sustainable development principles will help exploit new opportunities, create local green jobs and stimulate the green economy as a whole.
