Programmes and partnerships

Groundwork’s activities are delivered through programmes which have been developed and delivered in partnership with a wide variety of organisations.

Community Spaces
Community Spaces is a £50 million open grants programme that is managed by Groundwork UK as an Award Partner to the Big Lottery Fund. The programme helps community groups create or improve green and open spaces so that the quality of life in neighbourhoods across England is enhanced.

Barclays Spaces for Sports

Barclays Spaces for Sports was a partnership between Barclays, the Football Foundation and Groundwork which invested £30 million to create or improve community sports facilities across the UK.

Barclays SiteSavers
Barclays SiteSavers was a programme aimed at helping communities take more control of their surroundings by reclaiming underused and derelict land to create much needed recreational areas in their neighbourhoods.  The programme was managed by Groundwork and projects were delivered through Groundwork Trusts, together with BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers) and The Wildlife Trusts

United Futures
United Futures is a partnership between Groundwork and United Utilities which aims to strengthen strategic working between our two organisations while delivering practical environmental improvements in communities across the country.

ENWORKS
ENWORKS is a unique business support programme helping to improve business competitiveness and environmental performance throughout the North West.

Youth Works
Youth Works is a national partnership between Groundwork, Crime Concern and Marks & Spencer which gets young people living in high-crime neighbourhoods involved in practical projects as a way of helping to reduce youth offending.

Changing Places
Changing Places was a £60 million programme supported by the Millennium Commission which transformed 1,000 hectares of derelict post-industrial land into new green spaces at 21 locations across England and Wales.  The Changing Places sites continue to be developed as valuable amenities for people and important habitats for wildlife.

Land Restoration Trust
Created by a partnership comprising English Partnerships, Groundwork, the Forestry Commission and the Environment Agency, the Land Restoration Trust aims to tackle enduring dereliction across England.

GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
Over the past few years, Groundwork has developed innovative ways of using GIS for community development, environmental management and supporting strategic partnerships. GIS uses computer-based maps and databases to show information clearly and simply or to carry out analysis.

SAUL
Groundwork is the lead partner in SAUL (Sustainable and Accessible Urban Landscapes). The project involves eight partners from London, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands and seeks to address the role of socially inclusive urban spaces on the sustainable development of metropolitan regions.

Every Action Counts
Every Action Counts has been developed by a consortium of national organisations in partnership with Defra to help community groups lead the way to a better future and encourage everyone to work together to live within our environmental means.

Tomorrow's England
