United Futures

United Utilities and Groundwork staffUnited Futures is the community partnership between Groundwork and United Utilities.

It’s an ongoing programme based on joined-up sustainable development at all levels – from grass roots to the boardroom. United Futures represents a strategic investment in community regeneration across the North-west. The programme aims to support communities the company serves as well as addressing some key business issues.

United Futures funds new projects in areas that are being disrupted by United Utilities infrastructure development work, meaning that the inconvenience of having the road dug up is more than compensated for by the environmental improvements that follow.

The programme particularly focuses on neighbourhoods suffering high levels of deprivation, where the work carried out can make a real difference.

From community clean-ups to public space improvements, the United Futures team will work with communities to develop sustainable, tailored projects that enhance the work of United Utilities for the benefit of local people

Since November 2006 the programme has seen work worth £4.5 million carried out on 143 projects.

Other key results include:

  • 355,031m2 of land improved
  • 1,569,102m2 of land maintained
