BBC Connect & Create

Groundwork is one of 10 charity partners of the BBC Academy's 'Connect & Create' programme.

The scheme connects BBC staff with community groups across the UK to create learning experiences for everyone involved.  We are working with the BBC through Connect & Create to develop mutually beneficial projects in three different areas:  Production, Leadership and Mentoring.

Production projects could involve sharing knowledge to create films, podcasts or web content, while Leadership will see BBC volunteers helping to lead workshops or creative brainstorms.  Mentoring projects may include career counselling to help someone reach their full potential or providing advice to disadvantaged young people.

  • Groundwork London's Climate Change Youth Ambassadors project is an exciting environmental volunteering programme supporting 16 – 25 year olds to communicate their climate change and environmental concerns to their local communities.  Several young people who took part in the programme travelled to the BBC in west London to learn all about podcasting.
  • BBC Connect & Create volunteers taught the ambassadors how to use the recording equipment and how to produce an interesting podcast. Over the day the group produced three podcasts around the issues of sustainable living. Stepping out on to the streets the volunteers asked members of the public their views on a range of issues.  You can listen to one of the podcasts below.
