Donated tools help community greenspace to continue to thrive

Posted on 19 July 2018

Tool’s recently donated by Flymo to the Green Patch project have helped aid the maintenance of the community garden in Kettering, which aims to provide a safe and friendly space for the local community, including young people and vulnerable individuals.

Since 2007 Groundwork have been working with volunteers at the Green Patch to transform the once rarely used site into a thriving and friendly hub which provides various activities ranging from after school clubs, community events, and employment programmes to alternative education for disabled students.

Donations given by companies like Flymo help to maintain the sites vegetable and plant patches which not only make the area appealing but provide education to many young individuals on growing their own vegetables.

"We have children who come along who haven’t got a clue what a vegetable looks like, as far as they are concerned it comes from a plastic bag out of the freezer," says Nigel Bennett, Green Patch Project Officer.

The Green Patch welcomes over one hundred people through their gates every day, allowing more people that have little access to a garden or outdoor space to get valuable access to a local greenspace. The volunteering programme also encourages people to lead positive lives with care and consideration for the environment around them.
