Groundwork garden wins gold medal

Posted on 12 September 2014

A Groundwork garden was a hit with the judges at this year’s Harrogate Autumn Flower Show, landing both a gold medal and the best in show award.

The 4m x 5m Be Resourceful garden is packed with autumn colour and designed to encourage visitors to waste less and live more. The garden, designed and built by Groundwork, makes the most of found objects and recycled materials, allowing people and wildlife to co-habit happily in a small space.

The garden was designed by Groundwork’s Senior Landscape Architect, Liz Watson.

She said:

“The garden is designed to inspire people to find ways to not be part of a throwaway society, at the same time as creating spaces that are great for people and wildlife.

It reflects Groundwork’s mission to bring people and the environment together for the benefit of both. Sharing this message with visitors has been a real thrill and the award is the icing on the cake for the team.”

Groundwork also managed the RHS Chelsea Flower Show Re-use scheme this year, collecting over 3500 plants and 200 tonnes of hard landscaping materials and distributing them to over 100 community gardening projects across London.
