Thousands of volunteers in one day? Challenge accepted!

Posted on 25 July 2016

We all know how difficult it can be to find volunteering opportunities, particularly for large teams of employees. Being able to find sites to accommodate up to fifty staff was really important for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as they planned their One Firm - One Day 2016.

The firm doesn’t do things by half and on 20 May 2016, thousands of their staff got out of the office and got stuck into volunteering across the UK. Among the volunteers, seven teams spent the day with Groundwork at London’s Olympic Park, Birmingham's Saltwells Nature Reserve, St Alban's CDA Community Garden and Manchester's Trafford Ecology Park. All of these projects can accommodate large corporate teams - find out more about our environmental volunteering opportunities.

Atish Mistry has been managing PwC’s One Firm - One Day in the Leeds office for three years.

“It’s been incredibly rewarding managing One Firm - One Day (OFOD) in Leeds. The energy around the office from our ‘Most Funds Raised’ awards in 2014 and 2015 meant that we weren’t struggling for people who wanted to be part of Leeds OFOD 2016.

There were plenty of volunteers for the various activities that were held, from PwC's Got Talent to our volunteering activities with charities around the city. We had a team of 15 head out to The South Leeds Academy with Groundwork to help reinvigorate their garden.”

With around two thirds of our office taking part, I really believe that One Firm - One Day allows us to harness the dedication of staff and allows us to give back to our local community. And winning the Sponsor's Choice award just highlights the continued effort made by the Leeds office. It also shows us that the effort made by smaller regional offices can also have a big impact!”

Deborah Easton from The South Leeds Academy said: "Thank you to PwC for all your hard work on Friday. I have been out in the garden this morning, and to use a cliché, it has been transformed."

A huge congratulations and a massive thank you to all PwC staff who made a fantastic difference to these green spaces - we're looking forward to even more next year!
