Siemens UK Legal and Compliance Team have been working together on exciting challenges and activities to raise both funds and awareness for Groundwork throughout 2016.
The team has supported Groundwork through a range of self-initiated and corporate activities including going green on 23 September where employees dressed down, competed in a quiz and got involved in green activities.
Members of the team have also taken on individual challenges in support of Groundwork including Vickie Silvey who raised just under £200 for Groundwork by taking part in the Dorset Doddle.
Siemens employees have been involved in supporting Groundwork practically by spending a day away from their desks and getting their hands dirty volunteering at Bishop’s Park in London. Employees worked with the Groundwork team to give the park some much needed TLC, painting fences and cutting back vegetation.
Commercial Lawyer, Cora Cloughley said: “Every year our team chooses a charity/ trust to fundraise for and this year, two team members who had volunteered for Groundwork previously enthusiastically asked the team to join in. We decided to support Groundwork UK for a number of reasons, one being the national reach and local connections of Groundwork linked perfectly with Siemens’ long tradition of working with the community and the company’s active encouragement given to Siemens employees to work on education, social and environmental projects close to their sites. Siemens also encourage employees to keep healthy and volunteering in the outdoors or at a community project is the perfect way to combine this with contributing to the local community.
"The team has had fun thinking up ways to raise funds for Groundwork UK – from a rugby sweepstake to a green themed quiz. A few offices also took part in a Green for Groundwork day and the legal team enjoyed a visit and seed planting activity by Groundwork at their Spring conference.
"The highlight of the year so far has been the team volunteering day in London. We were met by our Groundwork supervisors and were allocated jobs to assist the local Friends Group of the park – jobs included clearing unruly scrubs and branches and painting a fence. It was a great way to spend time with colleagues in an informal setting and have fun.
"The partnership with Groundwork has given fantastic volunteering opportunities and has linked in perfectly with Siemens well-being ethos.”
2017 is set to be an exciting fundraising year for Groundwork with brand new challenges for corporate teams, including the London to Paris cycle.
If you want to get going before next year, why not try out our Winter Wreath Challenge? This is a great opportunity for colleagues with a more creative streak and those who are not interested in outdoor, practical activities. It's also a great way to get to know your colleagues in a different environment. Siemens plan to take part over a lunchtime teleconference so they can spend some social time with colleagues based throughout the country.
