Local authorities

Much of our work is delivered in partnership with local authorities in Bolton, Bury, Oldham and Rochdale - providing value-adding projects that make a real difference at a local level. Our aim is simple: to improve the places where people live and to improve the lives of those in our society who have least. Doing this effectively means working closely and strategically with local authorities, making a long-term commitment to places and connecting the ideas and aspirations of communities with the changing landscape of public services.

Improving life chances and protecting the most vulnerable is core to the way we work. We deliver local projects and services to help people acquire the skills, confidence and networks to improve their own prospects and to find work. Groundwork also helps people cope with the impacts of rising bills, working with councils to tackle fuel poverty and optimise household incomes.

With more than 30 years experience of delivering localised, needs led projects, Groundwork has an in depth understanding of people and places in the area’s we work and a genuine insight into the challenges they face.  We are well placed to engage with those residents least likely to access local services, from disengaged young people, to the long term unemployed or elderly people suffering from isolation. We are experienced in focussing environmental action where it is needed most, using it as a vehicle by which we build social capital and improve people’s prospects.
