Join a team which is changing places and changing lives

Groundwork is the community charity with a green heart. We believe that big global issues – the economy, the environment – have a big local impact. Groundwork work across the UK to help improve green spaces and people’s prospects.

Project Assistant

Contract: Part time (this is a zero hours contract)

Salary: £9.50 per hour

Location: Essex (First eight weeks in Clacton, further work available in other parts of Essex later in year)

Hours: Approximately 12-15 hours per week, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Unlocking Potential is an eight week (two days a week) course for anyone over the age of 16, who has mild learning difficulties or mental health issues, and would like help getting into employment – particularly within the horticulture, landscaping or construction sector. The course will involve some practical gardening and landscaping work, some training in health and safety at work, gaining qualifications in these areas, and support with employability skills such as job hunting, CV writing, and interview practice.

We are looking for a project assistant to help our Groundwork Project Officer to deliver the course, particularly on days that we undertake practical gardening work/training. The candidate should have experience in supervising individuals with mild learning difficulties and/or mental health issues, ideally in gardening activities. A basic knowledge of horticulture and an enjoyment of working outside would be desirable. A driving licence is essential, as the project assistant will also transport course participants between different gardening sites and learning locations in a Groundwork vehicle. The candidate must be reliable, personable, positive, have excellent communication skills, and be passionate about helping people achieve their employability goals. Candidates should be available to work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The first course will take place in and around Clacton-on-Sea, with additional courses taking place in other parts of Essex later in the year, most likely Harlow and Basildon.

We’ll make sure you’re given all the support and guidance you need and you will have the opportunity to become part of a highly successful organisation making a real and positive difference to people’s lives.

If you have any questions about the role then please email kat.davies@groundwork.org.uk.
