Groundwork takes practical action to create a fair and green future in which people, places, and nature thrive.

We support local communities and businesses to build capacity and resilience as this is vital if we are to tackle hardship, achieve a just transition to net-zero and help nature recover in a way that reduces inequality and leads to better work and healthier, happier lives.

Creating green jobs

The ‘Love my River’ project connects communities with their local rivers to help them to protect and monitor biodiversity. Jake joined the project from university and has used it as a springboard to get the experience he needs in ecology to follow his dream to become a wildlife documentary filmmaker. Groundwork supports people into thousands of green jobs like this every year, helping to create a better and greener future for people and communities across the UK.

Building stronger communities

Grow Speke is an incredible garden oasis manged by Groundwork in the middle of a South Liverpool housing estate where people grow food, make friends and learn skills. Before the garden was created the site was derelict and attracted flytipping, drug use and anti-social behaviour. Now there are extensive vegetable gardens, fruit tree orchard, polytunnel and lots and lots of bees in eleven beehives, thanks to the hard work of local volunteers.
