@TheGrange Launches In Blackpool

A vibrant new community hub recently opened to the public at Grange Park in Blackpool

@TheGrange is run by Groundwork on behalf of Blackpool Council and offers opportunities for local residents to learn new skills, meet new people and improve their health and wellbeing.

The facilities include shops, a library, a cafe, a community farm, a theatre, meeting rooms available for hire and a gallery. It was officially launched with a Family Fun Day that included Bouncy Castles, Circus Skills, Dance and Drumming workshops, a DJ and children’s entertainment.

It is located at the site of what was previously the City Learning Centre on Bathurst Avenue. The building has been converted to include 3 retail units including a One Stop Shop, a pharmacy and the HIS community shop, which is a new concept run by local organisation HIS Provision. In the HIS community shop no money changes hands for food, instead customers can volunteer and in return earn points which can be traded in for food, clothes, toiletries, furniture and cleaning products and white goods.

The opening of @TheGrange is fantastic news. The need for people to access high quality green open spaces for both physical and mental wellbeing, recreation, volunteering and training has become unprecedented in recent years and we expect far greater need in years to come. We hope that @ the grange will become a real hub of the local community and we are delighted to be involved in developing and delivering this exciting project.
Andrew Darron, Groundwork CLM Executive Director.

Local residents have been at the heart of developing this fantastic new facility and even chose its new name and logo. Cath Powell, who is the Development Manager is keen to find out what they would like to see from the centre and there is even a large chalkboard in the reception area where people can write down their suggestions. Although it only opended officially on April 14th, there are already many activities planned, including art workshops, growing sessions, a knit and natter group, rhyme time sessions, a community choir and lots more.

Why not pop in for a brew and let them know what you would like to do @TheGrange.

It is located at Bathurst Avenue, Blackpool, Lancashire, FY3 7RW.
