Groundwork was established in the early 1980s with a mission to bring together public and private sector resources to tackle the social, economic and environmental issues facing communities blighted by high unemployment, low aspirations and the physical scars resulting from the loss of traditional industries.
Working in partnership with businesses – from local SMEs to multi-national corporations and high street brands – is integral to the way we work. Our approach is to work creatively to find ways of helping companies make a positive impact on the local and global environment and respond dynamically to the needs of their customers and the communities in which they operate.
We are a charity with a strong track record in delivering community investment and CSR programmes with business partners. In recent years this has seen us team up with Barclays, Warner Bros. Studios, Cadbury, Britvic, M&S, News UK, Tesco and many others to deliver programmes to improve green spaces, encourage volunteering and support education and training. We are skilled at leveraging business investment to create programmes delivering proven benefits for communities and also for employees through volunteering and personal development.
Our strategic links with local authorities and our footprint in local communities make us the partner of choice for businesses looking to embed social value in the way they deliver contracted services. We have particular expertise in the utilities sector, working alongside water companies such as Affinity Water to manage demand and reduce debt.
