Stoke Together Waste Recycling project

'Stoke Together' is improving waste issues (including fly tipping, littering and low recycling rates) in the area of Old Stoke in Ipswich.

Groundwork Suffolk is working with Ipswich Borough Council and a local residents' group in the area, which generates higher volumes of waste and has lower recycling rates than the average. Stoke Together engages and empowers various different groups of locals to create a cleaner, safer and more attractive space for the local community.

  • We are working with local schools to deliver waste and community improvement educational sessions, engaging the children on recycling and waste reduction and encouraging them to take the messages they have learnt home.
  • We are liaising with landlords and letting agents so they can communicate with their tenants about waste, looking after properties and the local area.
  • We are engaging residents through a residents' group and events in the area to develop and promote messages in line with the group's vision of improving the local environment in which they live.

These project areas will help to shape the long-term plan for Old Stoke and to improve the local environment.
