Julie became a Green for Go regular after hearing about the project through a local job club.
Despite being a little daunted meeting new people at the start, she soon became a key member of the group, helping make sure the others were ok.
She liked the idea of getting out and taking part in environmental activities, but had no previous experience of outdoor work. Working on the allotments she quickly picked up new skills and learnt about gardening and plants - which plants are which, and how to tell which ones are weeds.
With a history of depression, Julie saw an improvement in her mental wellbeing once she started on Green for Go, which she attributed to being outdoors, being active, and socialising more. She particularly enjoyed making new friends.
Julie encourages anyone in a similar situation to herself to go for it and try out Green for Go for themselves. She completed the programme feeling confident enough to tackle her own garden at home and develop it more.
