Groundwork London is an environmental and social regeneration charity with a proven track record of managing and contributing to transnational partnership projects both as a Lead or Project Partner. We have experience of delivering projects funded through a wide range of European Programmes including; Interreg, LIFE +, European Social Fund (ESF), European Integration Fund (EIF), Lifelong Learning Programmes, Intelligent Energy Europe and Progress.
Groundwork London delivers:
- Social cohesion through community engagement and social innovation
- Innovation in climate change adaptation and resource and energy efficiency programmes
- Employment, skills and training programmes with a focus on young people not in education, employment or training (NEET)
The European Union has recently outlined their Europe 2020 Growth Strategy, which prioritises employment, innovation, education, social inclusion and climate and energy actions for a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy. Groundwork London's objectives and delivery closely reflect these EU priorities and are aligned with regional and national policies in the UK.
Our diverse partnerships
Through a number of transnational EU programs, over the past 15 years we have developed an extensive network of partners in the UK, Ireland, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Italy, Spain, The Czech Republic and Poland.
Our strategic partnerships with The Greater London Authority (GLA) and London's Local Authorities allow us to inform and influence policy development through delivering innovation and best practice on the ground.Our partnerships also include national and regional Housing Trusts and Associations, employment, training and skills agencies and UK Government Departments.
We also have strong partnerships with the corporate sector, in the last year alone we have worked with over 30 corporate partners including; Price Waterhouse Cooper, NEWS UK, Time Warner, Accenture and Interserve. We have also developed links with academic institutes through our EU programme delivery, specifically The Department of Planning at Oxford Brooks University, Institute of Health and Human Development at The University of East London and Middlesex University.
Award winning innovation
Our Host Borough Employment Programme and has helped over 1,000 people into work. It also won the Department of Work and Pensions’ Transnational Innovation Award for innovation, transnationality and mainstreaming activities. DWP also highly commended our finance and delivery team on the quality of our systems, processes, record keeping and reporting methods.
Groundwork was also awarded the ESF Sustainable Development Mainstreaming Leader Award in 2011 for our Host Boroughs Employment Offer (HBEO) project working to increase environmentally and financially sustainable job opportunities in the Olympic boroughs, using ideas and experience shared with transnational Swedish partners. The project also won the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP)

Groundwork is a well respected and trusted third sector partner that has been making a difference to London and Londoners in London for over 20 years. Our innovative work has won many awards, including a Community Action Award for tacking fuel poverty from National Energy Action. The award was presented to our home energy advisors - Green Doctors, by Greg Barker MP, Minister of State at The Department for Energy, when the UK Government launched their new Community Energy Strategy at our Manor House project in 2014.
