Homes4Health

What is Homes4Health?
Homes4Health is a new regional initiative which provides vulnerable individuals with free home energy visits and other services in order to increase health and well-being. The scheme has been launched in London, and for the first time brings together local authorities, a housing association, charities and a range of partners; including 60 health organisations, social services, and community groups.

Over the next three years, we’ll be working in partnership with four local authorities, and one local housing association, to deliver 7,830 home visits to some of London’s most vulnerable and fuel poor residents. During each visit, residents will be offered a range of financial, energy and well-being interventions, as well as referrals where required to other local services.

Where will Homes4Health visits be delivered?
This programme will be delivered to the most vulnerable households across four London boroughs: Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, London Borough of Hounslow and London Borough of Camden.

Groundwork London’s Green Doctor team will be working closely with all partners to support residents with home visit services and health and well-being advice. The main objectives of the programme will be to help vulnerable residents by increasing comfort, reducing energy bills, and improving health outcomes for those experiencing fuel poverty.

Homes4Health aims to build on the learnings and successes from Groundwork London’s award-winning WARMTH programme, which was proven to reduce fuel poverty as well as decrease pressures on the NHS health services.

We have teamed up with behaviour change experts MEL Research to help us understand and evaluate resident’s lifestyle and behaviour changes after receiving a Green Doctor visit.

What will we achieve?
By the end of 2021 we aim to:

  • Visit 7,830 vulnerable, fuel poor households.
  • Reduce individual household’s energy bills and improve energy efficiency within the home, through an average saving of around £547 after home visits.
  • To improve the health of residents through home visit interventions and onward referrals; reducing GP visits by 36% and A&E visits by 12%, thus resulting in a £217,987 saving to the NHS.
  • To achieve a minimum of 90% satisfaction rate of residents following home visits.

The benefits of this programme will be felt foremost by the vulnerable residents we visit, as well as benefitting the service delivery partners we work with. Vulnerable residents will experience an improvement in their level of comfort and health, as well as a decrease in their fuel bills and debt. The six key partners involved  will experience a far more joined-up service across London, breaking down existing barriers and delivering a more efficient service through this multi-agency approach.
