Our Countryside Park Rangers team manage open spaces to ensure the maintenance, conservation and accessibility of parks for local people.
Since September 2013, we have been Managing Agents at the Land Trust’s Fryston Country Trails and Frickley Country Park, both reclaimed collieries which have been transformed to create large open meadows, wetlands, developing woods, and recreational space as well as extensive paths and bridleways. The sites’ locations on the urban fringe mean they serve as doorsteps to the natural world for their respective communities and an introduction to its understanding and appreciation.
Both sites host various activities and events run by the Park Rangers to enhance the natural environment and engage local communities, schools and businesses:
- educational workshops
- events and open days
- conservation volunteering
- health walks
- nature walks
- habitat and wildlife surveys
