HEAL: Health Environment and Allotments

Do you live in Gateshead? Would you like to become more active and improve your health?

The HEAL project offers a huge range of activities in and around Gateshead Central Nursery.

The Nursery is a fantastic space for growing and its security and surroundings make it particularly suitable for those with learning difficulties, mental health issues and personalised conditions.

As well as being the venue for the project’s five and ten week green activity programmes, the Nursery is also the muster point for green activity in the wider community, from where volunteers are coordinated and engaged in activities in local parks and green spaces such as Watergate Park, Thornley Woodland Park and Chopwell Wood. It is also the starting point for a series of wild countryside walks aimed at those wanting to improve their health by discovering their town on foot.

Finally, a network of community gardens and allotments across the town deliver a host of green activity including Springwell Garden, Whitehills Allotments, Ryton Croft and the High Street Pop up Garden.

Meet new people and getting more connected with your local community. Explore and improve your health through gardening, exercise, learning and friendship at zero cost and in a fun way.
