Could you be a Local Hero in your community?
A new campaign from the Growing Together partnership is aiming to get thousands of people to support hundreds of community growing groups and local food projects across the UK.
'Local Heroes' aims to encourage people to do something that benefits community growing projects by taking one simple action - for example signing up to a veg box scheme, taking their children to events or workshops, offering specialist skills as a volunteer or providing business sponsorship. This increase in support and public profile will benefit the long-term financial future of community growing groups as well as teaching sustainable skills and know-how to ensure the projects can continue once the programme ends.

About Growing Together
Growing Together is a partnership of community and environmental organisations that will work together over the next two years to help community growing groups to unlock both their potential and income to allow them to become financially self-sustaining.
Following a £800,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund, the programme will help local community growing groups by helping them to develop business and technical skills and offer advice and training on alternative funding options available to them.
The aim is to offer tailored support to provide community growing initiatives with the confidence, skills and knowledge they need to move from reliance on grants to a dynamic and balanced income model.
Groundwork UK is a partner in the Growing Together with fellow organisations:
- Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens
- Groundwork UK
