Our major projects

We run Level 1 City and Guilds Practical Horticulture Skills Traineeships in Kent. Each young person will be able to learn skills such as planting, preparing ground, pruning, using a mower, maintaining turf or constructing a path; and brush up on their maths an english at the same time.

Functional skills Level 1, together with the horticultural qualification and work experience with a grounds maintenance team, is the perfect pathway to an apprenticeship or a permanent gardening position.

Ebbsfleet Public Arts Project

Groundwork South designed a programme of community engagement to develop Vision and Theme, for the public artworks at the Government’s new Garden City of 15,000 houses. This included schools sculpture workshops and artist led local history afternoons.

Artists were selected to develop proposals for the site for Phase 1 of the housing development, and a panel of stakeholders then selected the final winning artworks. Groundwork project managed the successful implementation of the artworks which included a straight tusked elephant by Emma Stothard; and sound posts of animals that inhabited the area in the Stone Age times.

Phase 2 of the housing is now underway, with the theme 'Things in the Woods' referring to Swanscombe Woods which used to cover the site. Groundwork is managing the selection and implementation of the artworks for this Phase.

Sheds Kent & Medway

Working in partnership with Kent County Council who run Kent Sheds; Groundwork South run 10 Kent & Medway Sheds. Originally an idea that started in Australia, proving that bringing men together to socialise improves their overall wellbeing.

The aim of the Sheds is to improve mental health and wellbeing of men including ex-service personnel by offering them a place to share a hobby or an interest.
