What does Groundwork South do at Alice Holt Forest?

Groundwork South is the lead provider of educational activities at Alice Holt, a royal forest on the border of Hampshire and Surrey.

The key focus of this project is the delivery of curriculum-linked visits for schools and community groups. So, working in partnership with Forestry Commission England (who manage the site), Groundwork South have developed a selection of exciting and hands-on programmes. These address everything from fundamental school topics such as; geography, history, biology and art, to practical life skills like team working.

Our bespoke sessions are led by forest experts and incorporate active games and experiments to help each participant learn through real-life, practical experience outdoors in the forest.

What’s on offer for schools?

We have 12 programmes currently available. We can also offer full custom sessions tailored to your exact requirements – simply get in touch at enquiries.aliceholt@groundwork.org.uk. We are keen to ensure that our programmes are accessible to all, so content and delivery is always adapted to meet the specific needs and interests of each group. This flexible approach has enabled us to deliver sessions for all manner of groups such as; specialist SEN schools, deaf youths and young adults, boarding schools, those with physical disabilities, and adoption outreach projects. Please see our brochure for further details on each of our available programmes, as well as additional information regarding pricing and session lengths.

What’s on offer to the public?

As well as out school sessions, we also run lots of exciting activities for the wider community during school holidays and on weekends. We run a holiday club for children aged 5 to 12, which is continually gaining in popularity, with many children returning again and again! Our ‘Fantastic Forests’ craft club sessions last a full day and combine guided outdoor exploration and games around the forest with indoor seasonal craft sessions using gathered natural materials. See the poster for our 2018 dates. We also run Christmas Wreath workshops for adults (and older children) during the festive period. These are very competitively priced at just £20 per person, including all resources and free festive
