NCS Vacancies - Wave Leaders, Team Leaders & Assistant Team Leaders

Summer 2019 Vacancies

Groundwork South are an environmental charity with a proven track record in environmental and social regeneration providing high quality sustainable projects across the South of England.

We are the local delivery partner for NCS (National Citizen Service) in Horsham and Mid-Sussex. NCS is a voluntary programme taking place during school holidays for young people aged 15-17. It will help participants to become engaged with their communities, as well as empowering them to become active, responsible citizens.

We’re looking for motivated and enthusiastic people to lead teams of 15 young people on their NCS journey with Groundwork South this summer. As Team Leaders your role is to support, motivate and engage with young people who have voluntarily signed up to NCS.

It’s a fun, diverse job with good rates of pay and a really rewarding way to spend a month or two of your summer.

What does NCS look like?
Week One - Adventure Week: Young people (aged 15 to 17) spend the first week getting to know each other on an activity residential, challenging themselves and making new friendships.

Week Two – Discovery Week: We go away on another week-long residential where we run sessions on life skills and personal development e.g. Healthy Cooking on a Budget, Youth Politics, Healthy Relationships, Yoga and Meditation, CV skills and interview skills and much more! Some workshops are led by our Team Leaders and others are led by external providers (full training and resources provided for Team Leader led sessions).

Week Three – Social Action Project Planning: Young people come in to our venue each day and plan for their Social Action Project, something that matters to them in their local community.

Week Four - Social Action Delivery: Young people carry out their volunteer projects in their communities – these range from flashmobs to raise awareness for LGBTQ+, care packages for the homeless, making documentaries for Age UK, green space clear-ups, fundraising fetes and bashes and many more amazing projects!

What is it like to work on NCS with Groundwork South?
“Not only is it well organised, thought out and cared for, the team is extremely fun, ridiculous and made working educational, playful and I felt like I developed a lot.”
“It's been great doing NCS for Groundwork again. This programme has definitely been the best organised and straightforward that I've worked on. I always knew what was happening next and had all the resources that I could possibly need. All my colleagues have been brilliant and supportive and it's definitely been one of the most fun and rewarding jobs I've had. So thanks!”
