Groundwork was established in the early 1980s with a mission to bring together public and private sector resources to tackle the social, economic and environmental issues facing communities blighted by high unemployment, low aspirations and the physical scars resulting from the loss of traditional industries.
Working in partnership with businesses – from local SMEs to multi-national corporations and high street brands – is integral to the way we work. Our approach is to work creatively to find ways of helping companies make a positive impact on the local and global environment and respond dynamically to the needs of their customers and the communities in which they operate.
We are a charity with a strong track record in delivering community investment and corporate social responsibility programmes with business partners. In recent years this has seen us team up with Cadbury, Britvic, M&S, News UK, and United Utilities at a national level to deliver programmes to improve green spaces, encourage volunteering and support education and training. We are skilled at leveraging business investment to create programmes delivering proven benefits for communities and for employees through volunteering and personal development.
Our strategic links with local authorities and our footprint in local communities make us the partner of choice for businesses looking to embed social value in the way they deliver contracted services.
We have worked alongside businesses in the North East including Siemens Power UK, Sage, Eversheds, Harlow Print, John Lewis, and many others to deliver projects across South Tyneside and Newcastle.
We work alongside the private sector through the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC), BitC, the Advanced Manufacturing Forum, and other business networks to tailor our work to help businesses grow in our local area. To do this, we deliver bespoke training and work experience programmes, improve open spaces and the business environment, actively promote the area as a destination for business and provide excellent business facilities at our business premises.
We believe businesses can and should gain just as much as charities from corporate - charity partnerships. A charity partnership with Groundwork STAN will enable you to connect with the local community and strengthen your reputation and brand awareness. We offer employee engagement practical challenges, skills based engagement and bespoke partnerships to help businesses enhance their sustainability credentials.
