Groundwork STAN is part of the Groundwork federation
Volunteering is a great way to boost your skills at the same time as making a real difference to communities.
Whether you're looking to gain work experience and broaden your horizons, fulfil your passion for environmental issues or simply want to give a few hours a week to a cause that benefits your community, Groundwork can help you do something special.
We regularly work with volunteers and value the contribution they make to our projects in enhancing and developing our aims and objectives in changing places and changing lives. Volunteering with us could put you in a strong position to progress into paid employment with us or another employer. Many of our existing employees and senior managers began their careers with us as volunteers.
Assist in our museum, reception and shop, Anglo-Saxon farm, village and grounds, or become a Tour Guide.
Support the delivery of history education activities to schools, community groups and the public.
Contribute to our outstanding delivery of hands on, immersive educational experiences.
Join our conservation volunteer session at West Boldon Lodge, every other Wednesday, 10am - 3pm

We provide training and create jobs, reduce energy and waste, re-connect people with nature and transform whole neighbourhoods.
Step by step we’ll go on changing places and changing lives until everywhere is vibrant and green, every community is strong enough to shape its own destiny and everyone can reach their potential.
