Love Your River is about encouraging people to reconnect with their rivers and the natural environment.
Over the last four years Groundwork West Midlands have been working with partners, like the Environment Agency, on projects aimed at improving the quality of our inland waterways.
The focus has been on improving water quality (due to the poor state of many of our rivers and brooks) and we are commited to engaging the wider community in their waterways so they can take simple steps to help us make a big difference. We are doing this through the many different projects listed below:
- Schools Work
- River Wardens Scheme
- Community Engagement
- Sustainable Urban Drainage
- Habitat Management and Creation
- Healthy River Code
- River Restoration
Friends of Lyme Brook, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire
Work under the project has seen volunteers from the local community help with the creation of new features that have changed the shape of the artificially straightened watercourse resulting in improvements to water quality and an increase in wildlife along the brook including species such as Brown Trout and Kingfisher.
The Love Your River project has made a real difference to the brook over the last few years and it’s great to see that species such as Brown Trout and Kingfisher are returning to the area at long last thanks to the hard work of volunteers.
