Take part in the #MyHomeMyPark photography competition

Posted on 10 July 2019

Groundwork is asking young people under the age of 24 to share a photo on social media of their park and why it’s so important to them – and to be in with a chance of winning a professional photography course!

The competition is being run alongside Groundwork’s 'Youth Advisory Board' (YAB) and run from Wednesday 10 July – Friday 9 August with 10 of the best entries winning a place on a local professional photography course.

The winning entries will also be showcased at a series of Groundwork community events across the UK before being featured during the Labour and Conservative party conferences later this year,  where the YAB will raise their concerns for the future of our parks and green spaces directly with MPs.

Interested? Here’s how to get involved:

Take a picture of your park

This can be of anything in your park; from the nature you want to see protected, to a new bike lane you’d like to see adding or a feature your little brother enjoys playing on and you want to ensure it stays safe.

Photos can be on a professional camera or a mobile phone.

Caption your picture

This is the important bit of the campaign; tell us why your park is so important to you; what you want to preserve in their park or what they would like to see added in the future.

Keep it brief, a few lines on what you want your local councillors and MP’s to focus on.

Be sure to use the hashtag #MyHomeMyPark as well as including the name and location of your park.

Note! Those under 13 years of age or not on social media can email their entries to groundwork_youth@groundwork.org.uk. Children can also ask their parents/guardian/youth workers/ teachers to enter on their behalf via social media.

Vote!

We’ll be checking social media* every morning Monday to Friday throughout the competition period (Wednesday 10 July – Friday 9 August). Make sure you share your entry wiht friends and family asking them to like your post to increase your chances of winning the prize.

As you may expect we cannot publish any explicit or illegal photos therefore images and comments will be vetted.

*Please note social media includes Instagram, Twitter and Facebook in this instance.

And the winners are…

The competition closes midnight on the Friday 9 August, at this point no more online votes will be counted and the entries will be passed to Groundwork’s Youth Advisory Board for anonymous judging. The judging will be made up 50% the photos with the most likes and 50% from the Youth Advisory Board anonymous voting. The scores will be collated and the ten photos with the highest score will be selected as the winners.

The competition winners will be announced on Monday 12 August. Prizes are non-transferable and have no cash equivalent. The judge’s decision is final.

The winning entries will also be showcased at a series of Groundwork community events across the UK before being featured during the Labour and Conservative party conferences later this year,  where the YAB will raise their concerns for the future of our parks and green spaces directly with MPs.
