Community Furniture Aid: helping those with nothing

Community Furniture Aid are based near Bridgend in the Welsh Valleys. Marianne, Julian and their small team of volunteers collect unwanted furniture and deliver it to those in need, many of whom have literally nothing. They support people fleeing domestic abuse, veterans living with PTSD and families living in poverty. In many cases when they arrive they discover that there is nothing in the house at all and families are sleeping on the floor on a pile of clothes.

A furniture pack containing essentials like beds and tables is delivered. Community Furniture Aid also believe it is important to provide other items like pictures and tableware, giving the recipient everything they need to turn their house into a home.

In addition to helping out people living in hidden poverty the project also stops usable furniture going to landfill, adding up to appoximately 200 tons over the last four years.

Community Furniture Aid won a Groundwork Community Award for Best Community Project Contribution to Environmental Sustainability in 2017.
