Elisabeth George - Trustee

My academic background is in genetics, toxicology and health economics (and all that is a while ago!), and my professional career had two quite different parts, firstly in the pharmaceutical industry, then at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). What is common in both is operational and people management, science/ research, data analysis and evidence-based decision making.

I retired from full time work a few years ago to have time for activities close to my heart: (1) working in a horticultural setting together with disadvantaged people (young offenders and people with mental health issues) and (2) supporting climate repair activities (creating carbon footprint data, writing articles for the local paper, interacting with schools; supporting the charity facilitating the path to zero carbon in the building services industry).

When I looked at the variety of projects that Groundwork East is carrying out, I felt that this organisation ideally matches my interest and I am absolutely delighted to be part of it now.

I am still acting as expert for some projects at NICE, a member of a Research Ethics Committee, and am playing violin in a local amateur orchestra and in chamber groups with friends. My holidaying usually involves walking, now mainly in the UK.

Elisabeth became a Trustee for Groundwork East in October 2022.

Elisabeth sits on the Business Development and Quality & Compliance Sub-committees.
