Temi Awofala

Temi Awofala is an accomplished, experienced and versatile corporate executive who has uniquely balanced her career within the corporate sector. She has verifiable success in various roles within Transformation and Regulatory environments.   Temi has held senior positions at several multinational Global Companies. 

Temi started her career as a HR Professional specialising in the areas of HR Legal & Compliance, Temi has worked in various multinationals as well as public sector, in different positions up to Director level, working on complex transformational programmes involved in setting up Global Shared Services being outsourced to India and Eastern Europe.

As an HR Professional, Temi has a wide experience of being involved in writing policies and procedures, managing Change programmes, addressing people management issues, as well as representing her organisation at Industrial Tribunals or Sandbox meetings with Regulators.  After 15+ years in HR, Temi made a career change into Regulatory Compliance, Data Protection and Risk Management. 

Temi is an experienced Data Protection Consultant with experience in Oil & Gas, Investment Banking and Retail Sectors.  Temi has been involved in setting up Global DP Programmes, reporting to board level management on DP Regulatory and Compliance matters.  She was responsible for HR Privacy (Globally) at Barclays for 6 years, one of the key programmes there was the implementation of GDPR across the Barclays HR Operations within the EU.  Temi currently works as a Territory Data Protection Officer at BNP Paribas.  Temi’s experience and knowledge of Data Protection spans across Data Protection Compliance, Risk Management, Data Protection Audits, Breach Management, Cybersecurity, Third Party Management, Data Protection Impact Assessment, Cross Border Transfers and Managing HR Privacy etc.

She has various Data Protection/Privacy qualifications including CIPP/E, CIPM, ISEB Data Protection Practitioner, Fellow in Privacy (FIP), Certified Data Protection Practitioner. Temi is a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD). She is also a Graduate of the Said Business School, University of Oxford – Women’s Leadership Programme.  Temi has also attended various courses relating to Corporate Governance, Finance for non financials, Data Ethics etc.

Temi also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Association of Licensed Data Protection Compliance Organisation of Nigeria a voluntary Group which governs the implementation and compliance framework of the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (NDPR).

An inspirational leader with strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate vision, develop and motivate diverse teams to perform.  Temi is passionate about improving lives and ensuring equality of opportunity in the workplace, and she also currently heads the Data Workstream for the UK Race & Ethnicity (Diversity & Inclusion) Group at BNP Paribas. 

Temi also mentors young mothers at her local church on career progression and achieving a work life balance.

Temi is looking forward to serving on the Groundwork East Board of Trustees.
