SOUTH WALES:   HOME  | LOCAL SERVICES  |  LOCAL PROJECTS  |  ABOUT  | CONTACT  |

Our Environmental Traineeships scheme is not like other ‘into-work’ programmes; we work with local communities and projects to help young people who want to get into work overcome the barriers that are stopping them. Whilst working on environmental projects in the local community, trainees are supported to gain essential skills, employability skills, confidence and self-esteem.

There is no entry requirement but trainees attend our provision for a minimum of 21 hours per week, for approximately 26 weeks, with the option of extension to a year, if appropriate. Trainees receive a weekly training allowance and a range of benefits including subsidized travel, mentoring and support from skilled, qualified staff, support with essential skills.

We offer a range of unique work experiences that work within and improve local environments:

  • Horticulture
  • Grounds Maintenance
  • Environment
  • Forestry and Woodland maintenance
  • River Restoration
  • Wood working
  • Furniture Revival (sales, admin, furniture recycling and customer service)

I’ve had experience of a work environment while getting my hands dirty! I’ve met lots of new people. Before I came here I couldn’t talk in front of people, especially those I didn’t know, now I have more confidence to communicate, although I still find it a bit hard. I’ve enjoyed receiving a wage, this has taught me to save for the future. Mostly I think the best thing is not being labelled because of my past behaviour. I am a lot happier mentally
