22-year-old Hanzalah started the Low Carbon Careers course with Groundwork Greater Manchester in November 2021.

The course focused on developing skills which would help participants start a career in the Natural Environment, covering topics such as flood risk management, grounds maintenance and nature-based solutions.

Hanzalah completed the course with ease, obtaining qualifications in Carbon Literacy and Health and Safety level 1.

After completing his course, Employment Coach Liz supported Hanzalah into a traineeship with a nursey in Tameside.

Liz commented:

“Hanzalah is thriving in his new role where he works with a groups as large as 12 young children every day. He has found it exhausting at times, but always rewarding. The course helped Hanzalah realise that he connected more with people than with nature and as such he decided to pursue a career in childcare.”

Hanzalah commented:

“It is way better than the previous jobs I have had in retail and hospitality. Seeing children learn and develop is emotionally and spiritually rewarding. There’s so much joy in being part of someone’s childhood.”

Hanzalah’s traineeship was 7 weeks long, and has since progressed into an 18-month level 2 apprenticeship in childcare at the same nursery.

“I have changed so much in the last few months; my personality has transfigured. Wherever life takes me, I am grateful to you for finding this traineeship for me. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that it is having a big impact on me.”
